Religious Education or rather, Faith Formation is about more than preparation for sacraments. It is important that all of us, no matter the age or where we are on our journey, be educated in the faith. Beyond the celebration of the Eucharist each Sunday and Holy Days, there are many more opportunities throughout the year to learn more about and live our faith.
The 'door of faith' (Acts14:27) is always open for us, ushering us into the life of communion with God and offering entry into his Church."---Pope Benedict XVI, Apostolic Letter Porta Fidei for the Indiction of the Year of Faith.
For many of us, the first step in our journey was taken by our parents as we were baptized into the Church. It was that Baptismal calling, to become disciples and to go out and spread the Good News, that brought us to take our own steps, receiving the Sacraments as we grew in our faith and our church. Today our journeys continue with a multigenerational approach through participation in the GIFT program. At home, it is our parents who teach or taught us with both words and actions. At the multigenerational sessions we also share our knowledge through words and actions.
