Music is an integral part of our lives on many different levels. It draws upon our memories, our emotions, and even our dreams. It is much the same in Church. We sing to remember, we sing about what we believe, we sing about how we are called to live our lives as disciples in the world today. We sing of God’s love for us and of our love for God and each other. We sing of life’s ups and downs, and how God is a part of them all. In the Archdiocese we have a very strong tradition of singing in Church. Each group of immigrants has enriched our lives and our worship with their song. Even in the days of the Latin Mass, chant and choir music were integral to the celebration. With so many ethnic choral societies, great music was often a part of any parish celebration.
We welcome your singing and your talent to this ministry, remembering the words of St. Ambrose, “We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our every Song” and St. Augustin “To sing is to pray twice”.
